Am 16 und 17. September findet im südwestlichen Freiburg i. Brsg. das “Shut Up and Bop!”-Wochenendfestival statt! In der schönen Location “Waldsee” am Freiburger Stadtrand bietet das Festival einiges für wilde Partys.

Es spielen 8 internationale Liveacts aus 6 Ländern:

Geboten wird außerdem eine erotische Burlesque-Show, präsentiert von der national bekannten “Belle la Donna” (gekrönt von den Zeitschriften “Maxi”, “Timeless, oder “GQ” für Fotoshootings, u.a. für Auftraggeber wie Audi Deutschland und Tokio Hotel).

Doch damit noch nicht genug…! Am Samstagnachmittag findet ab 13h ein weiteres Unterhaltungs und Weiterbildungsangebot statt:

Tanzworkshop mit den preisgekrönten Rock´n´Roll Tänzern “Nellia und Dietmar” (90 Minunten).
Rockabilly-Guitarworkshop, durchgeführt vom Schweiz-Amerikaner “Mitch Oliver” der Schweizer Band “Rocket Wheels” (90 Minuten).
Rockabilly Jam-Session für alle anwesenden Musiker und Sänger, denen es in den Fingern juckt und die gerne Ihr Können unter Beweis stellen möchten.

Interessenten können sich über das gesamte Wochenend-Festival von Freiburgs bekanntestem Tätowierer „Tom“ (Studio „Silverskull-Tattoo“) tätowieren lassen.

“Im Oktober 2008 reiste ich nach Bielefeld, um einem Doo-Wop-Konzert beizuwohnen. Drei der vier Bands, die auftraten, kannte ich bereits: „The Chaperals“, „The Crystalairs“ und „The Fabulous Flops“. Jede dieser Bands ist seit über 20 Jahren zusammen und hat mehrere CD’s veröffentlicht. Die vierte Band „The I Love You So’s“ war mir bis dahin unbekannt und hatte sie zuvor noch nie gesehen. Die vier Jungs aus Frankfurt am Main waren erst seit kurzem zusammen, aber sie schienen nicht eingeschüchtert zu sein, mit den weit mehr bekannten anderen Bands zusammen auf einer Bühne zu stehen. In der Tat erschienen sie sehr entspannt und hatten großen Spaß!

„The I Love You So’s“ versuchen nicht, die Doo-Wop-Songs der 50er und frühen 60er Jahre zu kopieren. Wenn Sie authentische Remakes Ihrer Lieblingslieder aus dieser Zeit hören möchten, ist diese Band vermutlich nichts für Sie. „The I Love You So’s“ ändern ihr Tempo, ihre Gesangs- und Chorstimmen abweichend zum Original. In den letzten drei Jahren des gemeinsamen Singen haben sie daraus ihren eigenen Stil entwickelt.
Die Jungs haben den Doo-Wop-Stil auf der CD zu neuen Ebenen geführt, indem sie ihre eigenen, selbstgeschriebenen Songs aufgenommen haben! Die ersten beiden Songs, die sie mir zusendeten, waren „I Can’t Wait“ und „Call Me Tonight“. Ich mochte beide Songs sofort nach dem ersten Hören, jetzt gefallen sie mir sogar noch besser. Es ist absolut klasse, neues Material zu hören und nicht immer wieder die gleichen alten Songs, die schon zuvor dutzende Male von so vielen Bands gespielt wurden!

Nachdem ich einige Zeit mit der Gruppe verbracht hatte, war mir klar, dass „The I Love You So’s“ Spaß daran haben, diese Musik zu singen! Ich habe das in dieser Nacht in Bielefeld gesehen und Sie werden es selbst bemerken, während Sie dem Album „Call Me Tonight“ zuhören. Weiter so, Jungs!”

“In October 2008 I traveled to Bielefeld, Germany to attend a doo-wop concert. I was already very familiar with three of the groups that were performing: The Chaperals, The Crystalairs, and The Fabulous Flops. Each of these groups have been together for twenty years and have released multiple CDs.

The fourth group — The I Love You So’s — was one I had not seen before, and did not know very well. These four young guys from Frankfurt am Main / Germany had been together for only a short time, but they did not seem to be intimidated to be on the same stage with the more experienced, well-known groups. In fact, they appeared to be very relaxed and really having a great time!

The I Love You So’s do not attempt to replicate the doo-wop songs of the 50s and early 60s. If you want to hear note for note remakes of your favorite songs from that era, this is not the group for you. The I Love You So’s may change the tempo, or do the lead and/or backing vocals very differently from the original. Over the past three years of singing together, they have developed a style all their own.

The guys have taken that style to new levels with this CD by writing their own new doo-wop songs! The first two they sent me were “I Can’t Wait” and “Call Me Tonight”. I liked both of those the first time I played them, and like them more now. It is so great to hear new material like this, not the same old songs that have been done dozens of times by many groups!

After spending some time with the group, it was clear to me that The I Love You So’s have fun singing this music! I saw it that night in Bielefeld, and you will hear it as you listen to this album ‘Call Me Tonight’. Keep up the good work, guys!”

The Woodchoppers: In alter Frische!

Auf dem Frankfurter Label Vampirette Music lässt er sich noch einmal in alter Frische mit den Woodchoppers musikalisch in dieser Wieder -Veröffentlichung blicken: Super-Rock’n’Roller und Upright-Bass-Akrobat Nick „Carbonara“ Bisognano. Live-Bestauner dieser Künstler werden ihre Wichtigkeit nur zu unter streichen wissen, europäischer Roots-Rock’n’Roll und R&B vom Feinsten. Da lauern unsere Gehörgänge auf musikkulinarische Befriedigung durch unseren sizilianischen Super-Koch Nick Carbonara. Let the good times roll!! Nick Bisognano, heute Bandleader von Rockin’ Carbonara, gründete sein Woodchopper Trio 1988 mit seinen Freunden Humphrey (Drums) und Pady (Guitar). Die Band trat in vielen Teilen von Europa auf. Die Band trennte sich 1997. Die Musik ist eine interessante Mischung aus Swing und authentischem Rockabilly, aber auch einige moderne Einflüsse halten Einzug!

The wild gang of musicians surrounding the Sicilian singer and bass player, Nick ‘Carbonara’ Bisognano, is probably one of the most explosive mixtures since the invention of spicy Pasta! When Nick and the guys start their Rock’n'Roll Show, everyone becomes a helpless victim of his unstoppable energy! But that’s not all, what makes this charismatic little Sicilian ‘Bass Maniac’ so special: The performances that he gives with his guys on the stages of the world express the true meaning of Rock’n'Roll: Joy of life, streaming sweat, love, sex, freedom, nostalgia and driving rhythm, just to give a few examples….

Nick Bisognano today’s bandleader of Rockin’ Carbonara founded his Woodchopper trio in 1988 with mates Humphrey hammering on the drums and Pady twanging his guitar. The band was gigging extensively throughout Europe. These guys had greasy hair, duck tails or pompadours: Pady just had a blue cap like the ones of Gene Vincent’s buddies, Humphrey just showed his percussion officer’s muscles, and Nick showed off a duck tail. These guys took hold of the party like all true rocking band may do: it’s loud, it’s funny and even more. Sometimes they paid tribute to the old rockabillies without being trapped in nostalgia. The band splitt in 1997 and had recorded two albums.

This excellent fifteen track Woodchoppers’ CD is now re-released on the Vampirette Music label from Frankfurt/Germany and will be made available to a large audience. The music is a blend of Swing and authentic Rockabilly, but also with some modern influences – quite interesting! With the current line-up “Rockin’ Carbonara” with Arno on the drums and Tamer on the Telecaster, Nick takes the lead on the songs and brings more “joie de vivre” then ever before!

Rockin’ Carbonara: Spicy Pasta

Ein Italiener spielt den Rockabilly: Treibender Rhythmus der 50er Jahre und italienisches Temperament. Was für ein explosiver Cocktail!! Von stampfenden Rockabilly groves, über bluesigen Klängen bis romantisches Swingen, Rockin‘ Carbonara treibt es wild und entschlossen.
Diese wilde Gang um den Sizilianer, Sänger und Bassisten Nick “Carbonara” Bisognano ist wohl eine der explosivsten Mischungen, seit es würzige Pasta gibt! Wenn Nick mit seinen Kumpanen zur Rock’n’Roll-Show bittet, ist jeder hilflos dieser unschlagbaren Energie ausgeliefert! Das alleine ist es aber noch lange nicht, was diesen charismatischen, sizilianischen Bassvergewaltiger ausmacht: Seine Show, die er zusammen mit seinen Musikern auf den Bühnen dieser Welt schmeißt, drückt aus, was Rock’n’Roll bedeutet: Lebensfreude, Schweißtreiben, Liebe, Sex, Freiheit, Nostalgie, treibender Rhythmus….
